How do I connect my laptop to the wireless network?
Just select ‘MericiInternet’ from the list of available wireless networks and you will be prompted for your username and password to connect.
To enable some security if your device is lost or stolen you will have to log in at least once per day to verify that you are using your device. After that you will be connected for the rest of the day.
Normal internet filtering and digital citizenship rules apply while you are at school.
How do I access my school files?
There are 3 ways to access your school files.
Directly from Office 2016
In Office 2016 for Mac and PC you can access your OneDrive files when using the normal File Open, File Save and File Save as functions.
The Recent documents list will show you all of your recent documents across any device that you use with OneDrive. So if you start working on a document via the internet you can pick up from where you left of on your PC.
To access your files via the Internet you can log in through your school email account and choose the OneDrive link or you can use the Student OneDrive link in Moodle. From there you can create new Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents and upload other files to your storage by dragging and dropping from your computer. All students get access to 1 Terra Byte of online storage which is 4 to 10 times the usual capacity of your laptop.
The OneDrive for business client
The OneDrive client can store and syncronise copies of your work into a folder on your computer. You can then save, copy and access your files from this folder normally and it will be backed up to the Internet automatically. A video tutorial showing the process is available on Moodle.
If you have an Apple or Android device you can also download and activate basic versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote on your phone or tablet.
I don’t have Microsoft Office, how do I edit my documents.
You can edit your document directly from the OneDrive link in your school email online or Moodle. If you have Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents you can do most editing in your Internet browser on any device.
As part of your school enrollment you are also entitled to install and activate a copy of Microsoft Office on up to 5 devices. This is linked to you school account and you will loose access when you leave the college. Keep that in mind if you are moving from school to school.
You can also download an alternative client such as Libre Office or Open Office which are free. Mac users can also use Pages and Numbers either on-line from iCloud or on their Mac.
How do I print?
There are 2 options for you to send printing
To allow you to access printing from anywhere (including at home) from any device, Merici has introduced email to print and web printing that allows you to collect your printing at any of the printers in the iC, IT Service Centre, PenolaFlex and Catherine Rey Flex.
You can upload you work for printing at https://moodle.merici.act.edu.au/webprint in the Moodle services block and use the form to submit printing.
How do I access Clickview?
The schools Clickview Library is available online at http://online.clickview.com.au or it can also be accessed from the services box on the Moodle homepage. The old ClickView client will no longer work through the BYOD system.
I need to access a school desktop at home or for my subject e.g for Photoshop
If you are doing photography or multimedia you can use VMWare View which gives you access to a fully configured school computer. It has all our major software packages on it including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, illustrator etc.
You can access it via the Remote School Computer link in Moodle or directly at https://remote.merici.act.edu.au
There are only a limited number of slots available and the experience is limited by your wireless connection or home Internet connection. The advantage is that all processing is done by the school's system and features higher performance processors and graphics that your laptop may not have.
The experience will be very similar to using any of the desktops that are available for your use around the school and will have access to the media drives.
Please follow the video guides on from this page to set this up on the PC or Mac Remote Applications tabs.
